The thematic cluster N2STIC gathers research and teaching activities about micro- and nano-structures : semiconductors, carbon-based or organic materials, core-shell nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes, magnetic and superconducting materials. Fundamental research is coordinated with the developments of new components for micro- and nano-electronics, photovoltaic devices, spintronics, with industrial partners. Applications concern solar cells and detectors. There is also a close link between research and teaching, in the "Programmes d'Approfondissement (PA)" in Electrical Engineering, Energy for the 21st century, and Physics, as well as in master and doctoral programs. These activities are supported by the chairs "NANODIX" (Samsung) and "Active Materials and Surfaces" (Saint Gobain). The creation of an Institute for PhotoVoltaic (IPV) - associating the laboratory of physics of interfaces and thin layers (LPICM), EDF, and TOTAL - is under way.
